Biofeedback

Because of my knee, I'm going to stop using the fitbit. It wasn't registering all my steps today. I'd walk awhile, but when I checked my fitbit, no steps would have registered. Instead of taking it apart and trying to get it back together better, I decided that I walked way more than my reduced goal today, just trying to get it to look like I got the 5,000 step reduced goal.
I am going to just go with biofeedback as a clue to when I've walked enough. I'm in the habit of pacing, so I don't think I will stop walking just because I'm not using the fitbit.

Active Minutes

I've been getting my 10,000 steps in on fitbit pretty regularly lately. Now I'm trying to get the 30 minutes active minutes. I think it is good for me, but it is so hard to do something other than drag. Before my knee surgery I was doing fine at the active minutes. The knee surgery was about a year ago. So the knee surgery isn't the reason I'm dragging. I'm just out of the habit and it took a while to even get back to 10,000...much less active minutes. But I'll keep trying. I'm up to 24 minutes today and feel pretty confident I'll get it today:)

Fertilizing Steps

I decided it would get me some steps in if I watered my tire garden and raised bed with a one liter bottle. I could walk to the faucet, put a little miracle gro in it, fill it with water from the hose, and then take it down to the strawberries, etc., in my circle garden.
It wasn't as many steps as it felt like. I ended up walking on the porch in the dark trying to finish my day's goal.

Fitbit

Today I got three of the fitbit categories green: 5 miles, over 10,000 steps, and 30 active minutes. I've done it by accident before, but I really wasn't paying attention to the colors until today. I didn't get the calorie expenditure green, but it was close.

I have my new fitbit zip connected to my account.  Thank you, fitbit support!

New Fitbit

I've found the problem with trying to get my fitbit to show up on my computer. I have to select a different fitbit because the account will only allow one device and my old one is on it.  I tried deleting it from my computer but that didn't work.  I can't find the option where it says replace existing tracker so I emailed their help department.  Maybe it will make sense to me when I get it.

Money to Garbage

My fascination with gadgets means I turn money into crap sometimes.  I'm not a fan of stuff that doesn't work, so I hardly ever even try to use a guarantee...if I have something that doesn't work, chances aren't good that I'll want another one.
But my fitbit has been fun for me for about a year and a half.  It has stopped holding a charge.  I contacted them and found that their warranty is good for a year.  So obviously $100 for a year and a half usage is reasonable to them but not to me.  I'll keep using it until I have to stay connected to the base unit while it is plugged in to use it and then call it quits.  I will not be replacing it.

Four Days

My visit to the orthopedic surgeon on Monday resulted in all restrictions being removed except squatting.  So trying to get back to my goal of 10,000 steps a day on my fitbit has been difficult.  Today is the first day I've been able to walk with any speed.  It had been six weeks and evidently it had resulted in a certain lack of enthusiasm for walking.  And trying to get 10,000 steps in strolling takes a while.  So, yea!  Faster is better when the goal is 10,000 steps:)

1,000 Lifetime Miles on Fitbit

I haven't been walking much lately, but tonight when I synced, I had a message on email saying I'd gotten 1,000 Lifetime miles badge.  It said it was about like walking the Florida Coastline.  Well, the Florida coastline is prettier, mostly.

Neither Knee

Today neither knee hurt but I didn't even get 5,000 steps on my fitbit. I decided that I should wait until I go back to the doctor to ask about whether walking for exercise is all right.  I guess I need somebody to explain about common sense because obviously I can't guess.

My Other Knee

I'm gradually getting more steps in and building up a little more speed.  My left knee is complaining after a while.  I hope it settles down.  I am not anxious to have anything else done for a while!

Fitbit and Crutches

I'm not trying to get any particular number of steps in while I'm recovering from knee surgery, but I am trying to move about enough so that my knee doesn't lose mobility.  I'm keeping a lot of the weight off of the right knee but putting it through the proper motions for walking.
I usually put my fitbit in my right pocket.  I looked, for curiosity's sake, to see if it was recording anything.  Turns out it records the steps if I have it in my left pocket but not so much in my right pocket.  Interesting.

Fitbit Annoyance

It took forever to get my fitbit to sync tonight.  I know several things to do to get it to sync, but tonight nothing worked for a long time.

fitbit

I've backed off of my goal of 10,000 steps per day because I am going to an orthopedic doctor tomorrow.  I've had an MRI and want to ask what will aggravate a torn meniscus in my knee.  So I'm trying to take it easy...at least until tomorrow.

Relegated to the Back Porch

I was pacing on the front porch when my husband pointed out that every time I pranced by a hummingbird feeder the hummers were disturbed.  He said it would be better if I walked on the back porch.  I knew it disturbed them but didn't care all that much.  He said they should attack me and I'd go away.  So I picked up the fly swatter and just looked at him.  Then I moved to the back porch.
I like nature just fine, but it's still mine.

Gray and Rainy

It's both easier and more difficult to get my steps in when it rains.  I can't do anything with my flowers and because the wind is blowing the rain onto the porch.  But I don't have anything else on my list of things to do that involves moving about.  So I can walk a short distance on the porch to get my steps in.  My inside list includes cutting up onions for the freezer and strawberries for refrigerator snacks.

5 Sections Sprayed with Miracle-Gro

I did not get my 10,000 steps in today.  I still might.  I have 9,400 so far.  But I did go to the store (check, one thing down) and spray all five sections with miracle gro.  I bought the x-hoses so dragging the hoses around wouldn't be such a weighty problem.  As advertised, they don't kink or tangle up.  Now my only problem is trying to get the hoses connected to the sprayer.  Actually, that is easy.  I can't get them loose again.  I need to use different faucets to get to different areas.  I already have hoses in some places so it is not a case of just connecting to the faucet and disconnecting.  I have to take the wand off in two places and put the sprayer on.  All of that worked for me today except right at the end...I couldn't get the sprayer off of the double x-hose that I used on the knockout rose strip that is parallel to the road.  It came off the hose just fine.  It wouldn't come off the x-hose itself.  I think I have solved it for now because I bought an extra sprayer.

Fitbit Spurs Me On

I have to say that it is difficult to get my 10,000 steps in when I spend time on the ladder holding screen so Larry can staple it.  Weeding isn't very mobile, either.  But fertilizing my roses and tire garden got some steps in.  Deadheading irises gave me a few more.  I still ended up walking on the porch and in the house trying to get to 10,000.

I'll Do It

When I volunteer at the hospital, I constantly try to find things to do because I can get my steps in on my fitbit easily that way.  When somebody wants an errand done, the other volunteer will say, "Do you want me to do it?"  And I say that I will do it because I want to get my steps in.
Yesterday my friend said she needed to go to the front to talk to the insurance person about her husband's bill; it had been billed to the company she used when she was still working.  Obviously, I couldn't do that errand so she asked, "Do you want me to wear your fitbit?"

Not Today

Yesterday I got a lot of stairs on my fitbit.  When I walked the same location today, I didn't.  I have no idea why or why not.
But I have managed to walk 10,000 steps for three days in a row.  Listening to David Eddings' books on my ipod are helping me enormously.
