Game of Kings

I love the Dorothy Dunnett books. I had all of them on Audible except the first one of the Lymond series. They finally got it on Audible. I could not imagine why they would have all of the series except the first. I have it in hardback, but I wanted it on audio, too. Now I have it.

Not My Usual

The gift shop at the hospital sells donated books for twenty-five cents each. I usually like science fiction, fantasy, and a few authors that I've been reading for years.
So finding a new author is good, but not easy.
I thought I'd try this one. The price was right. When I got it home, I discovered it was the fifth one in the series. So I found the series on audible and listened to a snippet to see if the narrator drove me nuts.
I am on the third one, now. Nothing is blowing up but the characters are good. The author is actually an Irish doctor and the main characters are general practitioners in a rural Irish town. It is set in the sixties with socialized medicine. The book isn't critical of socialized medicine, but it is enough different that it is interesting.
Some of the stuff about doctors is a lot like teachers...every effort isn't a success and it hurts. The successes feel great and having somebody express appreciation is also welcome.

Have Spacesuit Will Travel

I read this years ago. I'm listening to it now wondering why I ever read another Heinlein after reading that one. I can only guess that I didn't spend much time on the mechanics of the spacesuit. I have found that books I liked a long time ago don't always still appeal to me, but I'm enjoying this one.

Tomorrow

Diana Gabaldon's eighth book in the Outlander series is scheduled to come out tomorrow. She left her characters in such a mess last time, no wonder it has taken forever to release this one. It is time-travel, historical novel with a love story thrown in. It has an intricate plot with excellent characters. I recently went back through the whole series so it would be fresh in my mind.

Leon Uris

Leon Uris was one of my favorite authors a long time ago. He wrote historical fiction that I thought was excellent. I'd checked on audible to see if Exodus was available. It wasn't. But now it is. I've downloaded it and am anxious to see if it is as good as I remember.
Historical fiction isn't a favorite category for me any more. I like science fiction a lot, now. But I'm going to try an old favorite. I hope I love it...still...again...

Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum

I am listening to Eleven on Top by Janet Evanovich on my iPod.  I've already read it and have listened to it before, but not recently.  I won't get any new credits on Audible for another week or so, therefore I'm relistening.  It sounds boring but I was walking and laughing out loud.  Stephanie Plum is a wonderful character.  I've read a couple of books by Janet Evanovich that are not in the Stephanie Plum series, but they aren't as good to me.
