Low-Carb Cheese Toast

I'm tired of almost everything that is low-carb breakfast. This is made from low-carb bread (6 grams of carbohydrates per slice) and mozzarella shredded cheese. I put it in my toaster over for six minutes and find something to do while it cooks...tidy the kitchen, fix my coffee, empty the dishwasher, etc.

Fruit Fly Trap

I bought this fruit fly trap at Lowe's. We have fruit flies everywhere! I put it in the kitchen first. Then we had condensed milk with expired dates to leak in the pantry. I didn't catch it very soon so we had fruit flies there by the time I was cleaning it up. After a day in the pantry, I moved it back to the kitchen.
I wish I'd bought two of them or that Lowe's was closer.

Talk Radio

My husband listens to talk radio every morning. I usually go where I don't hear it but I was pinned up in the truck with it and listened to a woman say she listened to who the media attacked to determine who she liked. That was an interesting take on media coverage.

Walking Stick

I usually look for praying mantis in my flower boxes. This is the only walking stick I've seen since we've been in Tennessee (fifteen years). It only hung out in the parsley and basil for a day.

Bits of Color

The salvia hasn't done well this year but the impatiens and that little bulb plant are dependable bits of color that return each year.

Staghorn

This is Larry's staghorn fern. I tried to get him to enter it in the fair. I think it would have taken a prize.

Porch Flowers

There are three flower boxes and one basket in this photo. The hummingbird feeder has been taken down until spring. I have fifteen flowerboxes along the front porch and four baskets. All of them have angelwing begonias and silver falls dichondra. In the foreground a bit of impatiens are visible. The impatiens reseed themselves. The angel wing begonias are from cuttings I took years ago. Every fall I take cuttings for the greenhouse so I'll have a start for my flower boxes next spring. Cuttings take up less space and aren't as heavy to drag around.

Hay Is Cut

Today a neighbor came and did something to the small fields that aren't planted in soybeans. Larry likes to have them cut so they don't turn into part of the woods. It takes several operations with different machines. The fields have to be cut, stirred into long strips, then baled. He ended up with 13 large round bales.

Pass It On

Today I gave away my angel wing begonia that won the blue ribbon at the county fair. I kept the ribbon but decided I didn't need the plant as I would dismantle all of them soon for cuttings.

Data Usage

I went way over on my data usage last month. I changed the automatic updates on my computers and noticed that when I uninstalled and reinstalled my audible account, it had changed to enhanced instead of 3 for format. I changed the automatic update of everything and changed the format to 3 on audible format. I didn't go over this month.

Fall Is Coming

The Japanese Maples and Dogwoods are beginning to show signs of fall.

What Is Today?

Friday my husband asked how Mama is doing. I answered, "It's Friday." He somehow thought it was Saturday and I had called Mama. I think the part where he'd awakened at 4:00 am, gone back to sleep around six, and then gotten up again around 9 confused his time sense.

County Fair Ribbon

I entered an angelwing begonia in the county fair this year. It took a blue ribbon:) The white container it is in was one I made 30 years ago. It was pretty with the green of the foliage, but I worried about leaving it unattended for a week. It was safe.

Vulgar Language

At one time 'vulgar' language was any language other than Latin.
The language of diplomacy was French and German was the preferred scientific language.
There was a lot of controversy over printing the Bible in vulgar language or providing church services in vulgar language. I don't know if they thought God only understood Latin or what. Jesus was a Jew, so I don't know why they thought God understood Latin instead of Hebrew.
Anyway, hearing people refer to "vulgar" language brings lots of thoughts to mind. I'm pretty sure I consider a lot of mealy-mouthed platitudes "vulgar."

Personal Freedom

I am in favor of pro choice because as a teacher I seriously want people who want children to have them. But the organizations that seemed to be associated with the Planned Parenthood people (nice name, isn't it), are not places I support, nor do I think tax dollars should go toward them.
I'm in favor of gay marriage with the government having no say in personal choices. But I'm not in favor of fining or jailing people who don't agree with me.

An Apology

When a waitress doesn't wait on us for twenty minutes, doesn't bus the tables, and then apologizes for thinking it was somebody else's area, it is better than nothing, but not as good as good service in the first place. Somebody had been covering that area because dirty dishes were evident.

Answering Service

When I go outside, sometimes I remember to take the phone with me. Some of the calls are for Larry. I used to get up and hunt him down. But those calls would turn out to be people trying to sell investment stuff. I don't know if they are all scams, but I know that isn't worth me leaving my nice spot with whatever I'm doing to hunt down somebody that doesn't want to talk to a salesperson. The phone is mine. I'm happy to hunt him up for a family member or one of his medical people. So I ask who's calling and what is the call related to. Then I frequently tell them he isn't interested. Somebody called and said they were a consumer advocate and if he wanted the investment calls to stop, she would give me their website address. I figured that person was just trying to get us on their email list, too.

Friend in Hospital

The privacy rules make it difficult to even know I have a friend in the hospital so I can visit them while I'm here volunteering. I guess they think if I'm that good a friend, I'd know I had a friend in the hospital. But really, when people go to the hospital, they don't always start the phone tree.

Worm Tubes

This idea isn't mine, but I can steal ideas with the best. I plan to cut pvc pipe into one-foot lengths and sink them into my tires (Thanks, Leigh!). Then I'll dump compost into the pipes and water. That should encourage earthworms and water deeper into the soil. If I can figure out how to make holes, I'll put holes around the sides of the part in the soil. I've spent a couple of days so far looking for a hack saw. I thought I had one for the gourds. Maybe I'll ask Larry if I can use his.

Cell Phone Control

I don't see why they jump on gun control every time somebody kills somebody and takes a picture of it. Instead of putting the picture on television, why not investigate backgrounds and eliminate idiot pictures posted by nuts.

Enjoy What's There

My plan was to have pink crepe myrtles in my rose strip that parallels the road. So I took cuttings from pink crepe myrtles that I like and thought would go well with the knock-out roses in that strip.  Most of them are pink, but a couple are white and one is lavender. They aren't what I planned, but they are pretty.
Sometimes I have something in mind to paint. Sometimes it turns out like I thought it would. Sometimes it turns out so odd I have to do something else with it. Sometimes the something else is better than what I intended.
The first time I made coveralls from corduroy, I cut out four left sides instead of two left and two right. So I used a complementary color and cut out four right sides. I ended up with two pairs of spectacular coveralls! Deal with what is. It can be great.

Which Two?

We only need a couple of squash plants, cucumber plants, and peppers. If I had any idea which two plants would survive, I wouldn't need to plant a whole package of seeds.

What's This?

Larry decided to take a basket of peas from the garden to a neighbor. They are from Michigan so I said they probably wouldn't think they were food, but could feed them to the horses. Larry agreed and we took them over. She looked at them and asked, "What are these?" (I knew it.)
Purple-hull crowders.
The next time we saw them, she said she shelled them and started to cook them. Then she yelled for the little boys to come and look. They were green when she started to cook them, but turned brown, like magic. They all enjoyed them very much and decided to plant some next year. The little boys are three and four years old and being fostered there. They have horses, chickens, dogs and cats. The little boys have been there over a year now. And they liked peas:)

Game of Kings

I love the Dorothy Dunnett books. I had all of them on Audible except the first one of the Lymond series. They finally got it on Audible. I could not imagine why they would have all of the series except the first. I have it in hardback, but I wanted it on audio, too. Now I have it.
