Brown Praying Mantis

This brown praying mantis is difficult to see against the basket liner.  I watched it consider jumping from the porch rail for a long time then trudge back to its flower location in the flower box.  When it eventually made it over, I didn't see how it did it.  Did it jump or climb the post and creep down?
Information suggests that it is brown when the weather is dry and green when it is in moist.

  2. Yes, but I don't think they rack up many frequent-flyer miles. I've decided they can fly but I've never seen them. Roaches can fly and I've seen them, but mostly they crawl. I think these are in that group.
