Hearing Test?

A man at the hospital said I don't hear well.  I know why he said it.  I kept asking him to repeat himself.  But it wasn't because I didn't hear him, I didn't understand him.  For example, he said he used to have hair as red as mine.  Since my hair isn't red, I wondered if he didn't have red hair, either.  Our conversation just went on from there.
