Houseplant Pineapples

Larry cuts the tops off of pineapples as part of peeling them.  Then he puts the top aside for a couple of days to dry out some.  Then he puts it in a pot with dirt.  It grows into a pretty spectacular plant that looks a lot like a bromeliad.  After a while, it sends up a bloom spike and makes a new pineapple with a new top.  Ours don't get as large as the ones we've bought in stores, but I've heard they will will adequate water and fertilizer.
As a houseplant it takes up a lot of space.  The top picture shows a ripe one.  The one on the left in the basket fell over so he went ahead and picked it.
